Why Run Unaffiliated?
Let Me Tell You Why!
I am greatly concerned by the nature of politics in Washington. Never more than today has the ‘Us vs. Them’ mentality caused so much destruction to our national sense of community. I see that becoming the reality here in town as well.
While I did vote in our last presidential election, I did not vote for those in power today, not because I fundamentally disagree with much of their platform, though I do, but because I diametrically oppose the nature of their politics. It is exclusionary, basely biased, and more often than not nonproductive, and it comes at the expense of our nation’s heart and soul.
I have watched our local town parties mirror that of Washington, D.C., tightly keeping hold of that ‘Us vs. Them’ mentality, spending much of their resources competing with the other, even when it comes at the expense of Deep River residents.
If the previous municipal election has shown us anything, it is that our town is critically split, almost exactly down the middle. If either party has their candidate in office as First Selectman, it means that the other half of the town is not being represented by someone they feel has their interests in mind.
My goal is to change that - to leave ALL FEDERAL AND STATE-LEVEL politics out of my platform, and to only focus on what is right for Deep River. By doing this, I can offer the people of Deep River a third option: a First Selectman candidate who is impartial, unbiased, and not saddled with party-line politics and political I-Owe-Yous. It is my hope that having an impartial executive leader - one not controlled by either party, will allow both parties and our many unaffiliated volunteers to more effectively and constructively work together. To allow them to focus only on issues that pertain to Deep River, and to foster a renewed sense of local community, free from the negative effects of federal-level party-line politics.
I want to move Deep River forward, but also to take it back to when we had a leader who cared, a leader who stayed late, went that extra mile, and heard every resident equally. Then I want to go further than that, I want to make Deep River better than it has ever been.
